William Curtis Hall

William Curtis Hall, 89, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at his
home in Keswick, Virginia. He was born in 1922 in Loogootee, Indiana.

He grew up in Washington, D.C., and attended
Woodrow Wilson High
School.
He writes fondly of growing up in Washington - days of Monopoly,
of roller skating in neighbor's basements, of tennis (he was soundly beaten in
the D.C. Jr. Tennis Tournament where, "we went through two sets of tennis
as if I wasn't even there - that ended my tennis career"). He rode his bike
and skied down hills at the Naval Observatory, "before the Vice-President
lived there." He graduated from Indiana University in 1944, a member of
the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

From there he went directly into the Army. A member of the 3rd Army,
65th Division, 259th Infantry, Bill received the Bronze Star for heroic
achievement during an attack on Neumarkt, Germany, on April 20, 1945.

He was married in April 1946, to the love of his life, Barbara Ann
Rivenburgh. Bill Hall retired in 1993, from Firemen's Insurance Company
and Howard and Hoffman Insurance Agency in Washington D.C. where he
worked for 45 years.

Bill and Barbara moved to the Glenmore community in Keswick. He
remembers the dirt roads and woods surrounding their home when they first
moved in. He loved golf and stories and participated as the "chef" in the first
Glenmore follies. His children and grandchildren joined him in the 4th of
July parades.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his children, Linda
Hall Powell; Patty Hall Billings; and William Curtis "Curt" Hall and his wife,
Rima; sister, Barbara Hall Jennings and her husband, Bob, of Potomac,
Maryland; and brother, Brucks Hall of Houston, Texas. He is also survived
by seven grandchildren he adored, Jennifer Powell Lipnickey and her
husband, Chris, Kathryn Powell Ramirez and her husband, Alex, Kevin
Dexter Billings, Amanda Lee Billings, Kristina Ann Hall, William Antanas
Hall, and Michael Curtis Hall; and his two great-grandchildren, Izabelle
Micaela Ramirez and Amy Marie Lipnickey.

Friends are invited to a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, September
