Ruth C. Harris Moran

Ruth Harris Moran, 88, who spent several years as a foreign affairs analyst for the State Department, died Feb. 28 of
breast cancer at Milly's Home, an assisted living facility in Fairfax County.

Mrs. Moran was born Ruth Clara Harris in Washington and was a 1938 graduate of  
Wilson High School. She was a
department store model and attended American University before joining the Commerce Department during World War
II. She later became an analyst with the State Department, where she dealt with property owned by U.S. citizens in
Soviet-bloc countries. She resigned in 1951, when she was married.

In later years, Mrs. Moran led letter-writing campaigns to Congress about the dangers of toxic materials in household
items. She enjoyed gardening and making Halloween costumes.

Her husband, retired Navy Cmdr. George R. Moran, died in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Moran of Annandale and Sharon Moran of Syracuse, N.Y.; and two grandsons.
