Ronald C. Miller, 66, desk officer at the Department of Transportation, died of metastatic colon cancer May 27 at his home in
Bethesda.
Mr. Miller began working for the federal government in 1970 at the old Civil Aeronautics Board, where he was a transportation
industry analyst. When the CAB closed in 1984, Mr. Miller moved to the Transportation Department, focusing on Eastern Europe.
A native of New York, Mr. Miller grew up all over the country and also lived for a time in Cuba because his father's work as a
wrestling promoter took the family to many locales. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington and from
George Washington University.
For more than 15 years, he commuted to work from Brookmont by bicycle. After retiring in 2001, he was a member of the
Wednesday Irregulars bike group. He was a trustee of Brookmont Church, a nondenominational congregation in Montgomery
County.
Mr. Miller also enjoyed cooking and for the past 15 years led a neighborhood hike up Old Rag Mountain every Jan. 1.
A daughter, Elizabeth Miller, died in 2001.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Judy Miller of Bethesda; three children, Jonathan Miller of Boston, Carl Miller of Berkeley,
Calif., and Jenny Miller of Chicago.
