Of Duncansville, PA passed away on August 13, 2011 at the Altoona Center for Nursing. He had cancer. He is survived by two sons: Richard of Hollidaysburg PA, James (Kristie Jones) of Middletown, MD; and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Nicole Dunkley, of Hollidaysburg. He was divorced after 22 years of marriage from Linda Sprankle Willingham, of Vienna VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Richard E. Dunkley and Margaret McKinley Dunkley as well as his sister, Peggy D. Stuart.
Dick was born May 17, 1933 in Washington, DC and graduated from Horace Mann Elementary School and Woodrow Wilson High School. He attended the University of Richmond and American University.
He was employed as a real estate and insurance agent/broker at Stuart & Maury, Inc., and went on to the insurance departments of the H.L. Rust Co., Shannon & Luchs, Early, Cassidy & Shilling, and Weaver Brothers. He also served as President and State National Director of the Metropolitan Washington Assn of Independent Insurance Agents. He was active in the Wood Acres Elementary School PTA as well as the community of Wood Acres in the 60's and 70's.
Dick lived in Washington DC for the first 30 years of his life, in Bethesda MD for 20 years, and then moved to N. Potomac and Germantown MD.
After retirement, he moved to Duncansville, PA. Dick took pleasure in working in his yard, and was recognized as having the most attractive lawn on the street. He also enjoyed anything to do with the War Between the States and took pride in the service of his great-grandfather, Captain Rufus J. Woolwine, in the Confederate States of America.
Graveside services and burial will be held at the Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, VA, on Monday, August 22, 2011, at 1 p.m.
