Raymond T. McElligott Jr.

Raymond T. McElligott Jr., 78, who retired in 1991 as senior vice president of administration at the National Geographic Society,
died Dec. 12 at Washington Hospital Center of complications from coronary bypass surgery. He was a Potomac  resident.
Raymond Thomas McElligott Jr. was born in Seattle and moved to the Washington region in 1947. He graduated from  
Woodrow Wilson High School in 1948 and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Yale University in 1952.
He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Newfoundland. He then worked for DuPont in Seaford, Del., before
joining the National Geographic Society in 1957.
He was a former chairman of the Upper Montgomery County YMCA and a member of Potomac United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jane Hough McElligott of Potomac;  four children, Raymond T. McElligott III of Silver
Spring, Meg Kieffer of  Annandale, Anne Csaji of Apex, N.C., and Susan Marchand of Kinnelon, N.J.; and  six grandchildren.
