Pritchett, Colo. — Former Church of the Nazarene pastor Peter Wybenga
is back in the pulpit again.
He is serving as the interim pastor at the Church of God in Pritchett.
It’s a non-denominational church and he has been preaching there since
early June.
Pete is called the interim pastor but his major responsibilities are limited to
preaching and home visits.
“At the Nazarene church we did everything,” said Wybenga, who stepped
down from that position, citing the need to spend more time with family and
to better serve Las Animas School, where he is the media specialist.
In recent weeks the Pritchett church has been averaging about 40 people in
attendance. The Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and the
church service begins an hour later.
“I enjoy preparing a message. It gives me another outlet,” he said.
To commute to the church, he drives down Highway 101 until it ends at
Toonerville, then continues on dirt roads into Baca County.
He has not checked his speedometer but estimates the church is about 70
miles away from Las Animas.
