Of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, July 25, 2011 of Parkinson's disease. Beloved wife for 62 years of Leon DeMulder, devoted mother of Kim, Mark (Betsy), Matthew (Nancy) and the late Jon and Lea. Also survived by six grandchildren.
The daughter of Dr. Herbert and Ella Barott, Mary was born in Washington, DC on October 28, 1924. Her father was a research physicist at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Station. Her mother was a former school teacher in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, where the family returned each summer. These summer visits were the source of some of Mary's fondest memories.
Mary graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC in 1942. She had a talent and passion for the arts, including the piano, flute, ballet and painting so continued her studies at the Corcoran School of Art and exhibited her art work locally.
She met her future husband in 1946 at Underwood and Underwood Photography in Washington, DC where they both worked. She later worked at Brown-Suarez Photography and Eric Locke Studio. At all three studios she hand-colored black and white photographs using transparent oil paints and painted portraits on canvas.
Mary had a strong religious faith and was a parishioner and pianist at the Washington Christian Institute in Washington, DC for many years. Later she was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Hillandale, MD where she taught Sunday school for 14 years and was a member of St. Anne's Guild.
Mary was an optimistic, compassionate, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and member of the Washington area community and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20904 on Friday, July 29 at 1 p.m.
