Elaine Bennett, 74, a former teacher and retired credit investigator, died of cancer Sept. 27 at Suburban Hospital. A longtime Bethesda
resident, she had lived in Germantown for the past two years
.
Mrs. Bennett moved to Bethesda in the early 1960s, taught kindergarten and pre-K students at several schools in the area and ran a
day-care center. She also was a homemaker and PTA volunteer while her children were growing up. In 1972, she became a credit
investigator with Equifax and retired in 2003 as a senior supervisor of background investigations for ChoicePoint Inc
Margy Elaine Bennett was born in the District and graduated from Wilson High School in 1953. She received an associate's degree in early
childhood education in 1955 from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.
She enjoyed watching football and spending time at the beach.
She and her husband, Frederick "Rick" Bennett, have been separated for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Mindy Bennett of Wilmington, Del., Barbara Stevenson of Germantown and Diana Andreassen of
Vancouver, B.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
