John Marshall Rommel

John M. "Jack" Rommel, 84, a lawyer who specialized in intellectual
property law, died March 12 of Parkinson's disease at Montgomery
Hospice's Casey House. He lived in Potomac.

Mr. Rommel worked for more than four decades in a number of law firms,
starting in a partnership with his father and retiring in 1997 as a partner at
Kenyon & Kenyon. He represented individuals and companies such as
Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel's, the Gleneagles golf resort and Golden Books.

John Marshall Rommel was born in Washington and graduated from
Woodrow Wilson High School in 1942. He served in the Army Signal
Corps during World War II. He graduated from American University and
received a law degree from AU in 1954.

His eldest son, John M. "Jay" Rommel Jr., died in 1989.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara F. "Bobbie" Rommel of
Potomac; four children, Jan Bailey of Littleton, Colo., Brett Rommel of
Laytonsville, Brian Rommel of Rockville and Jeff Rommel of Bethesda; and
seven grandchildren.
