| James Fielding Pierce, 58, an accountant and administrator with nonprofit groups who also was a professional singer, died Dec. 25 at the Kensington Park assisted living facility in Kensington. He had a degenerative brain disease. |

| Mr. Pierce was born in Washington and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965. |
|
|
| He graduated from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He received a master's degree in business administration from Long Island University in 1972. |
|
|
|
Mr. Pierce worked for Marriott Corp. in the 1970s before becoming director of business practices of what is now the American Council of Engineering Companies. In the early 1990s, he joined the National Society of Professional Engineers, where he was a business administrator. He retired for medical reasons in 1999. |
|
|
|
For much of his life, Mr. Pierce sang in choral groups. He was a tenor with the Washington National Cathedral Choir, the Washington Bach Consort and the Choral Arts Society of Washington. He also sang in choruses with the Washington Opera and was the union representative of the Washington Opera Chorus. |

|
| Mr. Pierce was a professional soloist at church services and sang for many years in the choir of the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew in Wheaton, where he also was a member of the hand bell choir. |
|
|
| He was a longtime resident of Kensington. He was a fan of tennis and the Washington Redskins, enjoyed motorcycle riding and liked classical music, particularly the music of Bach. |
|

| His marriage to Karen Hayden ended in divorce. |
|
|
| Survivors include his mother, Patricia Boorman of Chevy Chase; and three sisters, Cynthia Pierce of Washington, Shelley K. Acosta of Hawi, Hawaii, and Jennifer Gallivan of Bethesda. |
