

DAVID D. GILPATRICK
David Drew Gilpatrick, 79, Lt Col., US Army (retired) of McLean,
Virginia, died December 19, 2011 after a long illness. David, born April 25,
1932, the son of the late Ray N. Gilpatrick and Elizabeth Drew Gilpatrick,
was graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC,
Class of 1950, and from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New
York, Class of 1955. He also attended Georgia Tech where he received his
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following twenty years of
service in the U. S. Army, David retired in 1975 and then joined SAIC Inc.
as a scientific analyst retiring in 1995.
In the 1950's, David was involved with the Washington Bagpipe Band
and continued his love of bagpipe music and his Scottish heritage. After his
retirement from SAIC, David spent time working on genealogy tracing his
paternal Gilpatrick family and maternal Drew family. He was a Master
Mason and member of Sharon Lodge #327, McLean, VA.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Gilpatrick Losee; brother-in-law,
Wilmot H. Losee, Jr.; niece, Elizabeth L. McGurl and husband, Stephen M.
McGurl; nephews, Geoffrey A. Losee and wife, Nancy C. Losee, James A.
Losee and wife, Kim V. Losee; eight great nieces and nephews, and cousins,
Mary Louise Dunlap, Nancy G. Daunton and Margaret C. Alderman.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John's Episcopal
Church, McLean, Virginia. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's
Church Memorial Fund (unrestricted), 6715 Georgetown Pike, PO Box 457,
McLean, VA 22101 or the American Diabetes Association , 1701 North
Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
