Clyde Martin Hungerford

   Clyde Martin Hungerford, 89, died February 28 at
home in Homestead, Fla.

   He was born March 30, 1921, in Washington, D.C.,
the only son of the late Charles Rudolph and Amelia Cecilia Hunger-ford.
Clyde graduated from
Wilson High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy
during World War II, where he started his career in intelligence, retiring
from the National Security Agency in 1975. He was active for 33 years in
the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and served as Flotilla Commander, Division
7 District Captain, District 5 South Commodore and National Financial
Officer.

   He spent a lot of time on his vessel conducting boating safety patrols for
the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows
Catholic Church in Centreville and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Homestead, Fla. His interests included boating, travel and reading.

   He was preceded in death by his first wife of over 60 years, Juanita
Marie Hungerford, who died in 2005.

   He is survived by his wife, Margaret S. Hungerford (Peggy); and cousin,
William A. Griffin.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at the
Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 408 South Liberty
St., Centreville.

   A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at Our
Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Chesterfield Avenue, Centreville.
Interment will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, March 21 at Maryland
Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville.
