William Henry Harrison Jr., 92, a retired executive with Texas Utilities Co., died May 13 of congestive heart failure at his
home in Dallas.
A District native, Mr. Harrison was a descendant of the Harrisons of Virginia, who settled along the James River in the
1630s and produced a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a Virginia governor and two U.S. presidents. He
graduated from Western High School and received his undergraduate degree in law in 1937, his undergraduate
degree in accounting in 1940 and his master's degree in law in 1941, all from Southeastern University. He served as a
Navy lieutenant commander in the Atlantic during World War II.
In the mid-1930s, he started his career with Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco) in the District and moved to
Texas in 1953 as the comptroller with Texas Electric Service Company in Fort Worth. He moved to Dallas in 1963 to be
executive vice president and chief accounting officer with Texas Utilities Co. He retired in 1984.
In retirement, Mr. Harrison enjoyed working on farmland he owned outside Rockwall, northeast of Dallas. It reminded him
of his family's rural holdings in Maryland's Carroll County.
Mr. Harrison's wife, Mary Virginia Darcey Harrison, died in 2002.
Survivors include three children, Pamela Wheatley and William H. Harrison III, both of Dallas, and Patricia Henderson of
Little Rock; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
