Valerie Patterson Alexandria Teacher

Valerie Patterson, 58, who spent 33 years as a physical education and health teacher in Alexandria City public schools, died June 12 at Prince
George's Hospital Center of heart disease. She was a Hyattsville resident.

Mrs. Patterson retired in 2008 after five years at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School. She worked at George Washington Middle School from
1975 to 1998 and then at T.C. Williams High School until joining MacArthur.

Valerie Richardson was born in Washington and graduated in 1969 from (Western) what is now Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She was a 1973
health and physical education graduate of what is now Kean University in Union, N.J.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star fraternal organization.

Her marriage to Jerome G. Patterson ended in divorce.

Survivors include her daughter, Valencia Patterson of Hyattsville; her mother, Eula M. Richardson of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters, Gaynell Mayo
and Karen Scurry, both of Washington, and Vanessa Maddox of Leesburg; and a brother, Anthony Richardson of Washington.
