Sylvan L. Mazo, 87, who owned Mabro Grill restaurant, California Liquors and other businesses in Washington, died of
pneumonia Feb. 19 at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He had Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Mazo was a lifelong Washington resident who graduated from Western High School and what is now Catholic University's
law school.
In addition to the restaurant and liquor store, he owned and operated a delicatessen at 18th Street and Columbia Road NW. He
ran Mazo Realty in the mid-1960s and retired about 10 years later.
He enjoyed reading biographies and history, traveled to six continents and regularly played tennis.
He was a member of the Washington Print Club and Adas Israel Congregation in Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Karp of Washington.
