Roslyn Diehl Young

      Roslyn Diehl Sonny Young Jr., 82, a lawyer who did antitrust work at the Federal Trade Commission and
retired in 1977 as assistant director of its Bureau of Competition, died March 16 at the Sunrise assisted living
facility in Washington. He had pneumonia.

      A native Washingtonian, Mr. Young was a graduate of  
Western High School, the University of Virginia and U.Va.'s law
school. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

      After his law school graduation in 1951, he spent two years in New York with the law firm that became
Donovan, Leisure, Newton and Irvine.

      He then joined the FTC, leaving briefly in the mid-1960s to be assistant general counsel at Martin Marietta
Corp., the aerospace giant.

      From 1979 to 1983, he was on the faculty at Washington and Lee University's law school.

      In retirement, he spent several years as an agent with H.A. Gill and Son Inc. real estate in Washington.

      He was a Chevy Chase resident, and his memberships included the Chevy Chase Club. His avocations
included hunting and fishing.

      His marriage to Elizabeth Bergh Young ended in divorce.

      Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Julia Jackson Young of Chevy Chase; two daughters from his first
marriage, Charlotte Young of Bethesda and Betsy Young of Chevy Chase; three stepdaughters, Susan van
Wagenberg of Baltimore, Kimberley Vierbuchen of Charlottesville, Va., and Jennifer Long of Santa Fe, N.M.; a
brother, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Joseph E. Young of Arlington; and 10 grandchildren.
