Joanne Smith Hall

Joanne Smith Hall, 78, a volunteer and homemaker, died May 27 of cancer at  Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. She lived in
Rockville. Mrs. Hall was born in Washington and was a 1947 graduate of the old  
Western High School. She attended the
University of Maryland.
After moving to Rockville in 1953, she was a den mother with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and with the Dandelions, a
women's auxiliary of the Lions Club. She also volunteered with Head Start and was a teacher's aide at Meadow Hall Elementary
School in Rockville.
She lived in Greece from 1969 to 1971, when her husband was director of business affairs at the American Community Schools
in Athens.
Beginning in 1973, Mrs. Hall worked for about 10 years at a ceramics shop in Rockville.
Her interests included reading, cross-stitch and travel.
Her husband of 58 years, H. Douglas Hall, died Feb. 26.
Survivors include four children, Sharon Hall of Silver Spring, Carol Hall of Winston-Salem, N.C., Gregory Hall of Okinawa, Japan,
and Gary Hall of Rockville; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
