Janice McGurn died October 31, 2011 at her
home in Bethesda, Maryland. She was 85 and her son
Mark was by her side.
Janice Ann McLaughlin was born in Chicago, IL
on January 30, 1926. She attended Western High
School and Georgetown Visitation. After college, she
worked as a journalist for the Washington Times-Herald
and then in Public Relations for a private firm in Coral Gables, Florida.
With her husband, Barrett McGurn, she lived in Rome and Hong Kong
before moving to Bethesda, MD in 1969. She was active in The Friday
Morning Music Club, The Capital Speakers Club, Meals on Wheels and
other charity organizations.
Her survivors include two sons from Barrett's first marriage, William
McGurn III of Rome, Italy and Andrew McGurn of Norwalk, CT; three
sons, Lachie McGurn of Winnetka, IL, Martin McGurn and Mark McGurn,
both of Bethesda and 11 grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nona."
She was well known for her grace, charm and sense of humor.
Visitation will take place at Gawler's Funeral Home, located at 5130
Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20016 on November 4 from 7 to 9
p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Little Flower, located
at 5607 Massachusetts Ave. Bethesda, MD on Saturday, November 5 at 12
p.m.
