

INGRID BEEKEN WELCH On Wednesday, March 10, 2010 of
complications from pneumonia.
Born May 18, 1931 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to
the late William and Elsa Beeken. A long-time
resident of Georgetown, she attended school in the
District of Columbia and graduated from Western
High School in 1949 where she earned a "W" for
her athletic accomplishments in several sports.
During the "40s and early "50s, Ingrid was often to be found on local
tennis courts when not working as a preschool teacher for the D.C.
Recreation Department. She loved music- especially from the "Big Band
Era"- and was a self-taught sight-singer, singing with a professional
group for several years.
Ingrid was a member of St. John''s Church in Georgetown and sang in
the Choir for about 30 years. She began a second career as a
homemaker in 1955 spending many hours with her daughters and
supporting their activity in the Girl Scouts.
The family moved to Virginia in 1970 where Ingrid continued to be an
avid gardener, regularly collecting seed "for next year".
Ingrid is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arthur, daughters
Suzanne Hulse (William) and Christine Welch (Tom Yborra),
granddaughter Victoria Welch, step-granddaughter Molly Yborra, sister
Karin Reynolds, and brother Frederick Beeken. She was predeceased by
her brother Anders Beeken.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at St. John''s
Episcopal Church, Georgetown Parish, 3240 O St., N.W. Internment will
be private.
