Frank Hughes, 87, a foreman supervisor at the old Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone, died of prostate cancer April 29 at his
home in Silver Spring.
Mr. Hughes worked for C& P for 39 years until he retired in 1978. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America,
Georgetown Big Brothers and the old Brooke Manor Country Club near Olney.
He was born in Rockville, grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Western High School in 1939. During World War II, he
served in the Army with the 176th Signal Repair Company in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He enjoyed golf and was a sports fan.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Cunningham Hughes of Silver Spring; four sons, Frank Hughes of Lancaster,
Calif., Jack Hughes of Salem, Va., and Dick Hughes and Joe Hughes, both of Olney; a sister, Edna Metzinger of Sperryville, Va.;
and 12 grandchildren.
