Emil H. Bachschmid Jr., 87, a commercial construction estimator for Irons and Reynolds Construction in the 1950s and then for E.H. Glover
Construction until he retired in 1985, died Dec. 19 at Reston Hospital Center. He had prostate cancer.
Mr. Bachschmid lived in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County and was a member of the Pinecrest Garden Club. He sang in many
Washington area church choirs over the decades.
Emil Henry Bachschmid Jr. was a native Washingtonian and graduated from Western High School in 1941. He served in the Coast Guard
during World War II and participated in the invasions of North Africa, Italy, Normandy and southern France.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Edwina Bachschmid of the Alexandria part of Fairfax; two children, David Bachschmid of Leesburg
and Julia Carlson of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Temple W. Bachschmid of Kensington; and three grandchildren.
