

Elaine Hutchinson, volunteer

Elaine Hutchinson, 94, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Meals on
Wheels and the Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church, died
of vascular disease Jan. 13 at Riderwood Village retirement community in
Silver Spring.
Mrs. Hutchinson moved to Riderwood Village from College Park about 10
years ago. She was a past member of University United Methodist Church in
College Park, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and
attended Bible study group. In recent years, she attended Riderwood Village
Church.
Elaine Essex was born in Washington and grew up in Chevy Chase. She
graduated in 1933 from Western High School, then spent several years as
an executive assistant with the Army Department.
Her husband of 50 years, J. Edwin Hutchinson, died in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Hutchinson of Silver Spring and
Kenneth Hutchinson of Glenwood, Md.; two sisters, her identical twin,
Lillian Chapman of Media, Pa., and Vivien Mitchell of Chevy Chase; five
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
