David C. Murchison, a Washington attorney and founding partner of
the firm now known as Howrey, died February 28, 2010 at the Talbot
Hospice in Easton MD. He was 86.
Services were held on March 5 at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in Easton,
followed by interment at St. Gabriel Cemetery in Potomac MD.
Mr. Murchison, born in 1923 in New York City, was the son of
Constance W. and Claudius T. Murchison.
After graduating in 1942 from Western High School in Washington,
David Murchison served in the Army in Europe. Following the war, he
received undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington
University.
In 1946, he married June M. Guilfoyle. For many years they lived in
Westmoreland Hills and were members of Little Flower Parish in
Bethesda. Early in his career, Mr. Murchison was legal advisor to
Edward F. Howrey, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. In
1956, Mr. Howrey, Mr. Murchison, William Simon, and Harold Baker
founded Howrey & Simon, which became one of the country''s leading
antitrust firms.
Mr. Murchison''s practice included handling large antitrust cases in
regulatory agencies and the federal courts.
In 1992, Mr. and Mrs. Murchison retired to St. Michaels, Maryland. An
avid fisherman and hunter, he became active in the Southern Africa
Wildlife Trust, supporting conservation projects.
Mrs. Murchison died in 2001. Mr. Murchison is survived by their
children, David R. Murchison, of Daphne, AL; Brian C. Murchison, of
Lexington VA; Courtney V. Murchison, of Arlington VA; Bradley D.
Murchison, of Charlotte NC; and Stacy C. Murchison, of Chevy Chase
MD; by fifteen grandchildren; and by his brother, Cameron Murchison,
of Holden Beach NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baldwin County Humane
Association, 306 Magnolia Avenue, Fairhope, AL 36532. Arrangements
were by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., in Easton.
