Charles E. Daniel Jr., phone company employee

Charles E. Daniel Jr., 77, who retired from Verizon in 1994 as a service
representative, died June 29 at his home in Riverdale. He had prostate
cancer.
In the early 1970s, Mr. Daniel began working at the old Chesapeake &
Potomac Telephone Co. as an installer. C&P became Verizon.
Earlier in his career, he was a teller for the old City Bank in
Washington, a salesman for the Montgomery Ward department store and a
salesman for Toro lawn mowers in Silver Spring.
Charles Ellis Daniel Jr., was a native Washingtonian and a 1952
graduate of Western High School. He attended a banking school while at
City Bank and attended Prince George’s Community College in the 1970s.
He served in the Army from 1957 to 1960.
His memberships included the Loyal Order of Moose and St. Bernard of
Clairvaux Catholic Church in Riverdale, where he coached youth sports and
was involved in the men’s club.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol Bokman Daniel of
Riverdale; four children, Charlene Daniel-Green of Hanover, Md., Charles
“Chuck” Daniel of Nottingham, Md., Christopher Daniel of Lusby and
Caren Devine of Huntingtown, Md; and eight grandchildren.
