Barry Conway Sullivan, 91, who spent 35 years as a manufacturer's representative for engineering, construction and
manufacturing clients, died July 24 at The Virginian retirement community in Fairfax. He had a heart arrhythmia.
Mr. Sullivan was mostly self-employed until retiring in 1986. He lived in Fairfax City until moving to The Virginian about four years
ago.
A native Washingtonian, he graduated from Western High School in 1932 and from Dartmouth College in 1936 with a political
science degree. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
After college, he spent several years as a Washington Post reporter and covered diplomatic and military affairs in addition to
other beats. He attended the National Press Club for years afterward.
He was a member and vestryman of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax City and was on the board of the Old Town Hall in Fairfax
City.
His wife, Martha Harris Sullivan, whom he married in 1946, died in 1974.
Survivors include three sons, Robert H. Sullivan of Fairfax County, Charles Q. Sullivan of Alexandria and Roger T. Sullivan of
Vienna; a brother, Dr. Robert B. Sullivan of Bethesda; and two grandchildren.
