Arvil Bowman, 75, of Spotsylvania County went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 25, 2008. He was at his
house surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Arvil was born on Jan. 25, 1933, in Dickenson County to the late Virginia Ellen and Jake Bowman. He had retired
from The Washington Post after 23 years of service. He served in the armed forces, and was a member of Masonic
Lodge 4, the Moose lodge and American Legion Post 290.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Bowman; five brothers; and three sisters.

Arvil leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Lora Gay Rose Bowman; two sons, Marvin Devain Bowman and his wife,
Beverly, and Robert Franklin Bowman and his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Judy Gail Green and her husband, David,
and Virginia Ellen Burgess and her husband, Ralph; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn
Blansett, Edna Elledge and Dephia Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arvil and Lora raised many foster children, including Patricia Ritchey, Roger Carter, Lisa Rodriguez, Ray Thomas and Gary Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with Pastor Richard Perrault
officiating. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials
