Barbara Ellen Burns Turton

Barbara Ellen Burns Turton, 88, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at home. She
was the loving wife of Michael Gloyd Turton.

Born November 20, 1929 in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas
Joseph and Evelyn Hancock Burns.

Barbara was a graduate of the old
Western High School (1947) in Washington, DC and
attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was a member of Summit Point Baptist Church, Summit Point, WV.

Through her interest in family and history, she enjoyed her membership in the following
heritage organizations: Pleasant Plains of Damascus Chapter, Daughters of the
American Revolution; West of the Falls Chapter, Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth
Century; Flagon and Trencher Society of Colonial Innkeepers; Huguenot Society of the
Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia; Jamestowne Society and the National
Society of Magna Charta Dames.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Barbara is survived by four children, Diane Putman
and her husband Kenneth of Keedysville, MD, Deborah Crutchfield of Mount Airy, MD,
Michael Turton and his wife Bridget of Ft. Worth, TX, Carolyn Haushalter and her husband
Jeffrey of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Jason Putman and his wife Nan of Rohrersville,
MD, Grant and Julia Haushalter of Atlanta, GA, Sarah and Brooke Turton of Ft. Worth, TX
and a sister, June Burns Goode of Bedford, VA.

Barbara was predeceased by her son-in-law Gary Crutchfield.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Summit Point
Baptist Church, Summit Point, WV. Interment will be private.
