   Frederick The Rev. William DeVries Sampselle, 88, of Frederick, died Sunday,
May 15, 2011, after a protracted illness following his birthday. He was the son of
the late William F. and Gladys S. Sampselle. He was the husband of Joan
Sampselle, his wife of 65 years.

   He graduated from
McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C., the
University of Maryland, and Duke Divinity School. He served as a Methodist
minister in the Baltimore and Washington districts for 40 years, retiring in 1984.

   He enjoyed reading and traveling and particularly enjoyed fine coffee and
chocolate, which he shared with his family.

   Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Joy Murray and husband Ron,
David Sampselle and wife Kathy, Alane Haynes and husband Kerry, Bonnie
Meeks and husband George, and Melodie Ann; grandchildren Cara, Sara, John,
Dirk, Ben and Emily; and great-grandchildren Naomi and Cali.

     The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at
Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick. A funeral service
will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home's chapel.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Salvation Army,
223 W. 5th St., Frederick, MD 21701. Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral
Home and Stauffer Crematory in Frederick.
