William Crenshaw (Bill) Richardson Jr., 89, of Roanoke, died on April 10,
2011, at his home. He was born on September 8, 1921, in Hampton, Va., to the
late William Crenshaw Richardson and Bessie Zulemma Garratt. He was
predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Corinne Boland Richardson; and three
brothers, Pat, Graham, and Charles Richardson.
Bill grew up in Washington, D.C., and graduated from McKinley High
School. Bill served as a Naval Aviator in World War II and later in the Reserves.
He married Corinne in 1947 in Falls Church, Va., and worked for the Federal
Aviation Administration, becoming a senior civil servant in the Flight Standards
division before his retirement.
He and Corinne made their homes in Falls Church, Ill., Minnesota, Michigan,
Annandale, Va., Smith Mountain Lake, and finally Roanoke.
He is survived by his six children, Gary Richardson and his wife, Lynne, Mary
Lou Richardson, Steve Richardson, John Richardson and his wife, Susan, Ann
Richardson, and Katy Shea and her husband, Mike. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren, Cory Richardson-Lauve and her husband, John, Sarah Whelan and
her husband, Pete, Hayley Richardson, William Richardson, Lindsey Housman
and her husband, Tyler, Collin Richardson, Sadie Shea, Ginna Shea, and Jack
Shea; and three great-grandchildren, Noah Richardson-Lauve, Connor Housman,
and Sophie Whelan.
A memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday,
May 16, 2011.
