| Richard S. Ray Sr., 78, who retired in the early 1980s as a vice president of Long Fence construction company, died April 14 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He had lung cancer. |
|
| Mr. Ray spent about 20 years at Long Fence. Afterward, he was an owner with other family members of 424 Wine and Spirits in Crofton, his town of residence. |
|
| Richard Shannon Ray Sr. was a native Washingtonian and attended McKinley Technical High School. |
|
| He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and participated in the Chosin Reservoir campaign. His decorations included the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. |
|
|
| He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton and the Kiwanis Club. |
|
| His wife, Elizabeth Neumann Ray, whom he married in 1952, died in 2002. |
|
| Survivors include six children, Donna Davis of Gambrills and Richard Ray Jr., Robert Ray, David Ray, Terri Ray and Patricia Miranda, all of Crofton; a sister; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. |
