Richard E. Hawes

Richard Edward Hawes, 83, who did payroll and personnel work for about 40 years at Washington Gas Light Co. before retiring
in the mid-1980s, died Oct. 14 at Potomac Valley nursing home in Rockville. He had pneumonia.
Mr. Hawes was a lifelong Washingtonian and a graduate of  McKinley Technical High School. He served in the Army as an
armored tank driver in Europe during World War II.
He did volunteer work for Washington Home hospice and Martha's Table Inc., a charity that feeds the homeless.
He was a member of St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Washington, where he attended Bible study classes.
He has no immediate survivors.
