Raymond Vernon, 81, who worked for the D.C. government for 32 years as a
civil engineer, died July 26 of cancer at Spa Creek Center, a nursing and
rehabilitation home in Annapolis.
Mr. Vernon, a Washington native, graduated from McKinley Technical High
School in the mid-1940s. He was briefly a D.C. police officer before joining the
city's Department of the Environment in the late 1940s. He retired in 1981.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Catholic Church in Edgewater.
His marriage to the former Betty Lee Crampton ended in divorce.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Vernon and Christopher Vernon, both of
Annapolis, and Charles Vernon of Huntingtown, Md.; a sister; and three
grandchildren.
