Myrl W. 'Bill' Demory Jr.
2009

Myrl W. "Bill" Demory Jr., 84, who worked for Potomac Electric Power for 38 years before retiring in 1984 as a general
foreman, died Feb. 28 at the Carpenter's Creek retirement community in Pensacola, Fla. He had heart and kidney
disease.

As a young lineman in 1957, Mr. Demory helped revive a colleague after the other man brushed a high-voltage line
while working atop an electricity pole in Takoma Park. His actions earned him the Edison Electric Institute's award for
resuscitation and an American Red Cross certificate lauding his disregard for personal safety to resuscitate the
electrocuted lineman.

Myrl Wesley Demory Jr. was born in Round Hill, in Loudoun County, and graduated in 1943 from
McKinley Technical
High School
in Washington. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

Inretirement, he moved from Vienna to Florida and was a resident of New Smyrna Beach. He was a founder and former
commissioner of the Vienna Pigtail/Ponytail girls softball league. His other memberships included Vienna Baptist Church,
the Lions Club, the Order of Elks and Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Va.

His wife of 49 years, Helen Jeffries Demory, died in 1996. A daughter, Anita Daniels, died in October.

Survivors include two children, Jeanne Post of Pensacola Beach, Fla., and M. Wes Demory III of Saugus, Calif.; two
sisters, Helen Jones of Fairfax County and Jean Cleer of McLean; and five grandchildren.
