Mary Bowden Denny, 84, a member of First Congregational Church in Washington, where she was in the choir and sewing
circle, died Sept. 25 at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham. She had renal failure and pneumonia.
Mrs. Denny, a College Park resident, was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of McKinley Technical High School. In the
1940s, she did secretarial work for Sen. Joseph F. Guffey (D-Pa.) and was a typist for the American Meteorological Society.
At her church, she also did volunteer work and formerly was a secretary. She was a volunteer for parent-teacher associations
and the Girl Scouts.
Her hobbies were needlework, crochet, cooking and gardening.
Her husband, Dean A. Denny, whom she married in 1945, died in 2004.
Survivors include three children, Donna Denny of Houston and Karen Stanga and Mary Ellen Denny, both of Silver Spring; a
grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
