Mary B. Gargus, 89, a sales clerk at the old Woodward & Lothrop department
store in the Seven Corners area of Fairfax County, died April 17 at Collingswood
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockville. She had vascular disease.
Mary Boccabella was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of McKinley
Technical High School.
She worked as a fingerprint clerk for the War Department in the early 1940s. In
the 1970s, after raising a family, she went back to work at Woodies for several
years.
She enjoyed gardening and was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church
in Annandale.
Her husband of 59 years, James L. Gargus, died in 1993.
Survivors include five children, Jim Gargus Jr. of Charleston, W.Va., George
Gargus of Annandale, John Gargus of Atlanta, Jackie Gargus of Germantown and
Judy Bradley of Rockville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
