     Katherine Biggs, 94, who retired from the American Chemical Society in 1982
as managing editor of the manuscript office, died Jan. 18 at the Ingleside at Rock
Creek retirement community in Washington. She had complications from cancer,
said her nephew-in-law Joe Murchison.

     Ms. Biggs joined the American Chemical Society in 1949. For the last 20
years of her career there, she helped lead the manuscript office, which manages
submissions to the society’s scholarly journals.

     Katherine Isabel Biggs, a Washington native, graduated in 1935 from
McKinley Technical High School and in 1939 from American University.
She was a past member of Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church and Georgetown
Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. Most recently, she
belonged to Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda.

     She had no immediate survivors.
