June Audrey Darling

June Audrey Darling, 85, a retired Foreign Service worker who was an executive secretary at five U.S. embassies, died of
lymphoma Aug. 28 at Springbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Silver Spring. She lived in Rockville.
Miss Darling was born in Washington. She graduated from  McKinley High School in 1939 and was a secretary at a produce
brokerage firm from 1940 to 1951.
She joined the State Department Foreign Service in 1952 and was stationed in Chile, Bolivia, Britain, Thailand, Yugoslavia, Peru
and Belgium. She served as the U.S. ambassador's executive secretary in Germany, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, the Dominican
Republic and Portugal. She retired in 1983.
Miss Darling enjoyed travel, theater and ballet. She visited many countries through the Elderhostel program. She was an
accomplished seamstress and artist and an avid reader. She did crossword puzzles in ink and could play Scrabble in several
languages.
She volunteered for U.S. Rep. Constance Morella (R-Md.) and crafted needlework items for an annual Capitol Hill bazaar. She
was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan.
There are no immediate survivors.
