Joseph Francis Wheeler Sr.

Joseph F. Wheeler Sr., 94, a Central Intelligence Agency accountant from the early
1950s until retiring in 1980, died Feb. 25 at the Jefferson retirement community in
Arlington County. He had pneumonia.
Mr. Wheeler, a longtime Arlington resident, was an Agriculture Department
accountant in the late 1930s and served in the Army in Guam during World War II.
Joseph Francis Wheeler was a native Washingtonian and a 1933 graduate of
McKinley Technical High School. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting
from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
He was head usher at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Washington and
volunteered with the newsletter at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington.
His wife of 49 years, Nancy Dixon Wheeler, died in 2000.
Survivors include three children, Anne Lipe of Damascus, Alice Meilman of Ithaca,
N.Y., and Joseph Wheeler Jr. of Centreville, Va.; and four granddaughters
