Janice Ivy Brown, 64, a former federal immigration officer, died Nov. 12 at
the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, of complications from a
broken hip. She lived in Bowie.
Mrs. Brown, whose maiden name was Reid, was born in Washington and was
a 1961 graduate of McKinley High School.
She began working with the federal government in 1965 and spent many years
with the old Immigration and Naturalization Service, which is now part of the
Department of Homeland Security. She retired in 2004.
Mrs. Brown lived in Landover from 1967 to 1995, when she moved to
Washington. She lived in Bowie since 2004.
For many years, she was a member of the Second New St. Paul Baptist
Church in Washington, where she was a deaconess and member of the choir.
Her marriage to Charlie Edward Brown ended in divorce.
Survivors include three children, David Brown of Forestville, Robyn Brown
and Donna Brown Scales, both of Bowie; a sister, Gloria Kaye Smith, and two
brothers, Robert and Eric Reid, all of Washington; and three grandchildren.
