James Kennedy Irelan

James Kennedy 'Ken' Irelan, 95, who had a 31-year career with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board and became active in the
Kiwanis Club, died July 25 of congestive heart failure at his home at Leisure World in Silver Spring, where he had lived since
1970.
Mr. Irelan was born in Washington and graduated from  McKinley Technical High School. He attended George Washington
University and received specialized training at the American Institute of Banking.
He joined the old Washington Loan and Trust Co. in 1930 and in 1971 began working as a field examiner with the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board. After serving in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, he rejoined the bank board and retired in 1972 as section
chief in the Office of Industry Development.
After moving from Kensington to Leisure World, Mr. Irelan joined the Kiwanis Club at Leisure World and served as chapter
president in 1983-84. He  volunteered for Meals on Wheels, served on several Kiwanis committees and was a life member of
Kiwanis International and the Capital District of Kiwanis.
He received the Hixson Fellowship Award for his years of service to Kiwanis and in 2005 was named his chapter's Kiwanian of
the Year.
Mr. Irelan was a member of the Inter-Faith Chapel at Leisure World and served on the finance, nominating and other
committees. He also participated in the Chapel Men's Chorale.
His first wife, Elizabeth Kennedy Irelan, died in 1973 after 35 years of     marriage.
His second wife, Dorothy White Irelan, whom he married in 1974, died in 1980.
His third wife, Luella Tredick Irelan, died in 1992 after 10 years of marriage.
Survivors include a son from his first marriage, James W. Irelan of San Antonio; two stepchildren from his third marriage, Peter
W. Tredick of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Susan T. Palmer of Cherry Hill, N.J.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
