James Albert Hickey, 82, of Locust Grove passed away peacefully on Thursday,
June 17, 2010, at his residence.

He is survived by his two sons, Jamie Hickey and his wife, Melissa, of Jackson,
Ga., and Pat Hickey and his long time companion, Leony Robinos, of Beltsville,
Md.; and his daughter, Joanne Macdonald and her husband, Robert, of Locust
Grove.

Survivors also include three grandchildren, Jeff Macdonald, Mandy Macdonald
and Seth Martin; and his three sisters, Louise Bragg of Lewes, Del., Nancy
Williams of Owego, N.Y., and Joan McClure of Takoma Park, Md.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret L. Hickey.

Mr. Hickey graduated from
McKinley Technical High School in 1944, served in
the U.S. Navy, and then graduated from Benjamin Franklin University in 1951
with a master's degree in commercial science. He spent his 37-year career in
federal service, including 16 years as the assistant director of finance, Division of
Financial Management, of the National Institutes of Health and was appointed the
first director of the HEW Financial Management Institute.

Mr. Hickey was also an active contributor to his community. While a resident of
Adelphi, Md., he served as a Cub Scout softball coach, spent five years as a
Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 732, served as a PTA officer, was a board
member of the Adelphi Recreation Association, and was parish finance chairman of
St. Joseph Catholic Church. Upon moving to Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove,
Mr. Hickey served as a member of the LOWA Finance Committee and was an
active member of the LOW Lions Club.

Professionally, Mr. Hickey was a longtime member of the Association of
Government Accountants, serving as a member of the board of directors, and
president of the Washington Chapter.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, 9149 Elys Ford Road, followed by a reception for family and
friends at the Hickey family home. Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 30,
at 11 a.m. at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
