Iris Gaynelle Taylor Walker Shepherd

     On Saturday, January 29, 2011, Iris T. Walker Shepherd, 86, died of
pneumonia at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD.

     She is survived by her loving husband Edwin J. Shepherd of Riderwood, Silver
Spring, MD. She also was the wife of the late Fred J. Walker, Jr. and the cherished
and devoted mother of Karen Walker Lowman (Ron) of Millersville, MD, Carol
Walker Powers (Jim) of Ashton, MD and Michele Bissonette (Karl Boehle) of
Lanham, MD.

     Iris is survived by her loving sister, Jean T. Johnson of New Market, VA.
Surviving too are her stepchildren Carol Smith (Gary) of Longwood, FL, Beth
Mollick (Ron) of Newport News, VA, Nancy Green (David) of Apex, NC and Jay
Shepherd (Patricia) of Olney, MD. Iris delighted in her nine step-grandchildren
who survive her, Kelly Green of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Smith of Orlando, FL,
Kim Freedman of Hiram, GA, Alison Folkwein of Avon, CT, Emily Wallace of
Reston, VA, Peter Green and Jill Green of Apex, NC and Michael Shepherd and
Tara Shepherd of Olney, MD, and her seven step-great-grandchildren Dylan,
Emma, Ava, Gabe, Jaden, Owen, and Ayla.

     Born Iris Gaynelle Taylor on May 20, 1924 in Washington, DC, she was
raised in DC. She was a proud graduate of
McKinley Tech, where she served on
her class reunion committee for more than half a century.

     Following her marriage to Fred, the couple moved to Lewisdale, MD to raise
their children. Iris resided there for over 40 years and was active in the community,
particularly in the childrens' schools and the Ladies Auxiliary of the
Chillum-Adelphi Volunteer Fire Department.

     Following Fred's death and her marriage to Ed, Iris relocated to Silver Spring,
MD and later to Riderwood where she has lived for the past ten years.

     A memorial service for Iris will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1
p.m. at the chapel at Riderwood. Interment is private.

     In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Iris' name to her
favorite charity, the Riderwood Benevolent Care Fund, which helps Riderwood
residents with financial hardships. Contributions can be made to Riderwood BCF,
