George M. Cornell, 89, a retired Pepco substation superintendent, died of
sepsis Nov. 6 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington County. He lived in Arlington.
Mr. Cornell worked for Pepco for 37 years, retiring in 1975.
George Morton Cornell was born in Washington and graduated in 1936 from
McKinley Technical High School. He served in the Army during World War II
in the Mariana Islands and Fiji. He attended George Washington University.
He was member of the Optimist International service organization, and his
hobbies included fishing.
His wife of 54 years, Ruth Iley Cornell, died in 2000.
Survivors include three children, Lois Cornell Yancy of Glasgow, Va., Janis
Cornell-DeMoss of Edgewater and Roger Alan Cornell of Nashville; and four
grandchildren.
