Obituary: F. Elwood Davis, a
Washington lawyer, dies at 96


     F. Elwood Davis, 96, a lawyer whose clients included George Washington
University and the Peoples Drug chain, died Jan. 17 at Sibley Memorial Hospital in
Washington.

     He had complications from pneumonia, said his son, Robert Davis.

     Mr. Davis started a private law practice in Washington in 1947, and the firm
later came to be known as Reasoner, Davis and Vinson. He specialized in family
trust and probate issues and served as general counsel for a number of Washington
businesses and institutions. He retired in 2009.

     Frank Elwood Davis was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of
McKinley
Technical High School.
He was a 1941 graduate of what is now George
Washington University law school. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during
World War II.

     His memberships include the Scottish Rite and the Kiwanis Club. He was a
District resident.

     His wife of 66 years, Louise Grunwell Davis, died in 2009. Survivors include
three children, Robert Davis of Washington, Anne Spratt of Bethesda and Lynne
Whitley of Raleigh, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
