Francis Xavier O'Brien
Francis  Xavier O'Brien, 74, a retired engineer planner for the old Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co., died of cancer April 18 at his
home in Annapolis.
A native Washingtonian, Mr. O'Brien grew up in the Brookland neighborhood and attended St. Anthony's grade and high schools, graduating
from
McKinley Tech High School. He enlisted in the Army infantry in 1948 and fought in the Korean  War. He was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal and the Purple Heart.
After leaving the military, he returned to Washington and worked his entire career for Chesapeake and Potomac, retiring in 1989. He was a
member of the American Legion, the VFW, Brookland Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis. He enjoyed golf and bowling, as
well as being with his grandchildren.
His son, Timothy O'Brien, died in 1990.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen O'Brien of Annapolis; three children, Carrie Dworshak of Silver Spring; Patrick O'Brien of
Silver Spring and Kevin O'Brien of Annapolis; and five grandchildren.
