Dorothy S. Burgan, 80, a retired Department of Agriculture program assistant, died Dec. 15 of pneumonia at John Kane Regional Center in
Pittsburgh, a nursing facility. She was a former resident of Hyattsville.
Mrs. Burgan worked for the federal government for 33 years, including at the Maritime Department. She retired in 1981.
She was born in Dillwyn, Va., and raised in the District. She attended McKinley High School, took night courses to earn a GED and
graduated from Southeastern University.
She was a member of the Daughter of America and a former member and deaconess at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church in
Hyattsville.
She lived in the Washington area more than 40 years before moving to Pennsylvania five years ago.
Her husband, Bernard J. Burgan, died in 1966.
Survivors include three children, Michael Burgan of Lowell, Mich., Carol Richards of Pittsburgh, Dorene Burgess of Colorado Springs; four
sisters; and four grandchildren.
