Allen Evry, 88, who retired in 1979 as the head of the art department at Wheaton
High School, died May 13 at his home in Silver Spring. He had a heart ailment.

Mr. Evry spent his entire 25-year teaching career at Wheaton High School. In
addition, his paintings and prints were exhibited at the Phillips Collection and
Corcoran Gallery of Art.

From 1990 to 2004, he and his wife Ann produced more than 230 episodes of "Art
Strokes," a half-hour program on Montgomery County public television that
featured works by local and national artists.

Mr. Evry, a native Washingtonian, was a graduate of
McKinley Technical High
School.
In 1949, he received a bachelor's degree from George Washington
University. He received a master's degree in education from the University of
Maryland in 1951.

In the 1970s, he and his wife ran a summer camp for underprivileged youth in
Long Beach, N.C.

His first marriage, to Nanette Solomons, ended in divorce. His second wife, Ann
Kingen, died April 15 after 51 years of marriage.

Survivors include a daughter from his first marriage, Lynda Tate of London; a
daughter from his second marriage, Marta Evry of Venice, Calif.; a grandson; and a
great-grandson.
