Phyllis Gustafson Frieberg

Phyllis G. Frieberg 12/29/1922 - 11/26/2013,
Violinist, volunteer, traveler Phyllis Frieberg died on
November 26, 2013 as the result of a fall and head
injury on Sunday, November 24th.

She was born in Ohio to Carl and Dagny
Gustafson. Phyllis graduated from
McKinley High
School
(Wash DC) at age 16 and graduated from
Upsala College in East Orange, NJ at age 20,
valedictorian of her class. At college, she met and later
married Arthur Frieberg who was ordained a Lutheran
minister in 1944 and served as a Navy chaplain in the
Philippines.

Together Phyllis and Art served churches in Frewsburg, NY, Bergenfield and
Tenafly, NJ, Devon, PA and Perkasie PA. Phyllis distinguished herself as a
violinist at an early age and most recently played with the Delaware County
Symphony. She loved reading novels and doing crossword puzzles. She sang in
church choirs and led women's groups at the churches she served and at
Reformation Lutheran Church in Media, PA. Her local volunteer activities also
included: Helen Kate Furness Library, Meals on Wheels, Riddle Hospital,
inspector of elections, Reformation's Stay and Play program.

Her Jove of mathematics led to jobs with banks, businesses, and the PA
Unemployment Office. Phyllis loved best her family gatherings and family
vacations. She traveled extensively in the US and abroad. She and her family
celebrated her 80th birthday in Sanibel, Florida, and she celebrated her 85th
birthday in Stockholm, Sweden with 11 American family members and 5 Swedish
family members.

Survivors: Her sister, Maureen Hannemann, five children: Kristine Hughey
(Richard), Paul Frieberg (Elaine), Faith Woodward (Roland), Deborah Chubb, and
Priscilla Conrad, 5 grandchildren, 3 foster grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren. Services: Family and friends are invited to attend the
memorial service for Phyllis at Reformation Lutheran Church, Media, PA at
11:00, Saturday, December 7, 2013.
