| William 'Bill' E. Davis, 84, a former special agent in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, died of cancer June 20 at home in Washington. Mr. Davis worked for the NCIS from 1953 to 1979. He then worked as a private investigator for a security service for several years before joining the Pentagon Federal Credit Union's security division. He retired in 1989. |

| Mr. Davis, a native Washingtonian, grew up in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood and graduated from St. John's College High School in 1943. He joined the Marine Corps during World War II and served in Okinawa and the Pacific. |

| After the war, Mr. Davis graduated from what is now Elon University in North Carolina. He worked briefly at Pepco before joining the NCIS. |
|
| Mr. Davis spent 25 years volunteering as a coach for youth sports. He coached football and baseball at the Jelleff Boys Club for 15 years, and football at Our Lady of Victory School for 10 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was also known as "Tax" Davis for his sideline as a tax preparer for friends and family members. He was a member of the Big Brothers Club, the Palisades Georgetown Lions Club and the International Police Association. |

| His wife of 57 years, Barbara Davis, died in 2005. |

| Survivors include six sons, Stephen Davis of Fairfax City, Michael Davis of Stafford County, Ronald Davis of Arlington County, Richard and John Davis of Washington and Kevin Davis of Rockville; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. |
