On Friday, October 7, 2011, beloved husband of 55 years of Barbara
Saunders Newlond; loving father of seven children; Donald Newlond (Linda) of
King George, VA, Donna Newlond of Martinsburg, WV, Susan Newlond of
Warrenton, VA, Merrie Newlond of Reston, VA, Tricia Fanning (Frank) of
Warrenton, VA, Karen Riser (Shevin) of Falls Church, VA, and Larry Newlond
(deceased); six grandchildren; Erin Adkins (Jeremy), Michael Tygrett (Fallon),
Tiffany McIntosh (Greg), Thaddeus Newlond, Kyle Newlond and Conor Fanning;
and six great-grandchildren.
Born in Washington DC 1932, Graduate of St John's College, Washington
DC 1949. Served in US Navy 1950-54. Employed at Western Electric 1954 and
retired from AT&T 1989 (35 years).
Buddy and Barbara retired to the Northern Neck of VA in 1994 where they
became members St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church and volunteered at RGH
(Second's Unlimited).
Buddy enjoyed living on the water, fishing, and boating in his retirement. He
was a life-member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a dedicated little league
football coach and girl's soccer coach in Arlington and Great Falls. An avid
Redskins fan and 30-year season ticket holder.
Was a descendant of one of Mosby's Rangers, Lt Edward "Ned" Thomson.
The family will receive friends at MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 4510 Wilson
Blvd., Arlington, VA on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910
N. Randolph St., Arlington, VA on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11 a.m.,
followed by interment at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart
Association , 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231.
